LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

Real-Time Strategy Workshops

The original researchers of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, Professors Bart Victor and Johan Roos, and Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, grandson of LEGO's founder and former CEO, believed in living the strategy. They also believed that "People are key to an organisation's success - people can and want to do well'.

The Real-Time Strategy applications of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® are developed based on these principles. Workshops are designed to allow participants to contribute to the process of strategy-making using their personal and professional knowledge. By tapping on the potential of the team, leaders and managers are equipped to make better and more efficient future decisions.

Organisational focus and employee engagement are also improved as team members have had the opportunity to contribute their ideas and are committed to the organisations' success.

    Real-Time Strategies Defined

Here are play-by-play descriptions of how the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method is applied for real-time strategy-making

In this application, leaders and team members use the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method to help everyone understand the enterprise's purpose in the bigger ecosystem.

Using a 3D LEGO landscape and 'agents' (internal or external factors such as competitors) contributed and constructed by participants, 3D connections are then build from these agents to the organisation. Once a visual and addressable landscape is ready, future scenarios and the degree of impact on the organisation can be discussed among participants, a valuable and significant educational process.

Through this play, participants will emerge 'Simple Guiding Principles' to guide the organisation's team members to make better future decisions as they live their strategy towards their goals.

Using the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® process, team members are given the opportunity to construct and present a LEGO model of their contribution and impact to the organisation. In today's fast-paced workplace of diverse roles and responsibilities, the opportunity to truly understand and appreciate a team member's contribution is few and far between.

Through the participant's own viewpoint as well as shared perceptions from other team members, this identity development play will help the team to better understand each other and exercise greater empathy in their work and personal interactions.

Serious play continues towards building a shared team identity, eventually providing participants with the opportunity to construct and craft a 'Simple Guiding Principles' to guide the team's strategy towards better cohesiveness and higher performance.

A simpler LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® real-time application but just as powerful. In this play, team members construct LEGO models of their identity at work and how they are perceived by everyone else. The play moves to understand participants' current and aspirational selfs, providing a powerful insightful opportunity for team members to learn and understand their group better.
